The Princess and the Olive Tree

A long time ago, in a town nestled among golden dunes, there lived a princess who loved the scent of olive trees. In her palace garden stood an old, gnarled tree, so old that the gardeners said it had seen the town before the palace was built. One day, a mysterious merchant arrived with sacks full of shiny green olives. He offered them to the princess and said, ‘Whoever eats these olives will understand the language of trees.’

Curious, the princess took an olive. No sooner had she tasted it than the old olive tree began to whisper: ‘Princess, in the valley beyond the desert lies a well that gives eternal water. But only those who show patience and wisdom can find it.’ The princess thanked the tree and set off. On the way, she helped an injured falcon, gave her last olives to a hungry camel and listened to the wind singing through the dunes like the voices of ancient olive trees.

In the end, she found the well and the water was clearer than anything she had ever seen. She returned home and planted many new trees around the old olive tree so that future generations would learn to hear and respect the wisdom of the olives.
